Rajasthan’s solar revolution gains momentum as more than 20,000 electricity consumers register for the state’s 150-unit free solar power scheme under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The initiative, part of the Mukhyamantri Free Electricity Scheme, offers eligible households 150 units of free solar power every month, encouraging widespread adoption of rooftop solar systems.
Consumers have applied through discom websites and the Bijli Mitra portal, giving consent to install solar panels at no cost. In the first phase, the state government is offering an additional ₹17,000 subsidy on a 1.1 kW system, combined with the ₹33,000 central subsidy, making solar installations virtually free for beneficiaries.
While households without rooftop access — such as those in villages or housing societies — are currently excluded, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) has permitted them to source solar power from nearby plants. However, clarity on subsidy eligibility for these consumers is awaited.
This program strengthens Rajasthan’s position as India’s renewable energy leader, supporting the nation’s vision of energy self-reliance and sustainable power for all.
