The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has illuminated a new chapter in its clean energy journey with the installation of its first solar-powered high-mast light at Ganpati Chowk, Kalyan (West). The ₹27.5 lakh project, implemented under a pilot initiative by Philips India, is a significant stride toward KDMC’s long-term goal of transforming Kalyan-Dombivli into a ‘Solar City’.
Led by Additional City Engineer Prashant Bhagwat and supported by senior municipal officials, the project demonstrates KDMC’s commitment to sustainable, cost-effective, and energy-efficient urban infrastructure.
The solar high-mast lighting system provides bright, uninterrupted illumination even during power outages and can operate for up to two days on a single charge. This enhances public safety, improves night-time visibility, and reduces the city’s carbon footprint.
Encouraged by the success of this initiative, KDMC plans to expand solar-powered lighting installations across key urban locations in both Kalyan and Dombivli. The project aligns with India’s broader goals of urban sustainability, renewable energy adoption, and climate-resilient city development.
With every solar installation, KDMC continues to light up Kalyan-Dombivli — one solar step at a time.
