MNRE Pushes Upstream Solar Manufacturing with New Capacity Data Release
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has shared detailed solar PV manufacturing capacity data with the Department of Financial Services and major NBFCs such as PFC, REC, and IREDA.
This initiative aims to help lenders take a calibrated, informed approach when evaluating new project proposals and to encourage financing beyond module manufacturing.
By highlighting capacities across solar cells, ingots–wafers, polysilicon, solar glass, and aluminium frames, MNRE aims to push investment into the upstream segments essential for a fully self-reliant solar ecosystem.
The government reiterated its commitment to positioning India as a global solar manufacturing leader. Currently, India’s solar module manufacturing capacity has reached 122 GW as listed in ALMM.
India has also achieved 259 GW of non-fossil power capacity as of October 31, 2025—reinforcing the nation’s rapid clean-energy growth and strong domestic manufacturing potential.
